KIMONOS

An ever-changing collection of Japanese vintage textiles and garments.

A fascination with the artistry of Japanese textiles has long been part of the world of Via Vandi. Collected for their extraordinary colors, intricate patterns, and exquisite craftsmanship, Vandi’s vintage kimonos offer a glimpse into another time and place. The collection is especially rich in nagajuban, the traditional under-kimono, with pieces dating predominantly from the 1920s through the 1960s. Once hidden beneath the outer layers of a kimono, these garments often reveal the most wonderful surprises: playful motifs, unexpected colors, and elaborate designs that speak to the individuality of their original wearers.

Alongside the kimonos are elegant haori jackets, including examples of the intricate Japanese tie-dye technique known as shibori, as well as obijime cords, obiage scarves, and other traditional accessories. Rarer finds include vintage samurai-style jackets and beautifully worn hemp firemen's jackets from the 1940s, each with a character and history entirely its own. Together, these pieces form an eclectic collection of wearable art, chosen as much for their beauty as for the stories they carry.

The collection is available exclusively in-store at Via Vandi in historic Henkel Square, Round Top, Texas.
